WHAT ARE Predator mites?

Predator mites are a way to control pests without using chemicals. They are insects that eat specific pest species.

We offer Predator mites that help control the following pests:

  • common spider mite (Tetranychus urticae)
  • red fruit tree spider mite (Panonychus ulmi)
  • red citrus mite (Panonynchus citri)
  • tarsonemid mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus)
  • strawberry mite (Tarsonemus pallidus)
  • young larvae of various thrips species
  • whitefly eggs and larvae

Predator mites can be used in greenhouses and other covered areas, as well as on houseplants.

Not effective on tomatoes, because tomatoes Fluffy and soft leaves are not liked by Predator mites. They get stuck in the soft hairs and cannot move on the tomatoes.

HOW MANY PACKS ARE NEEDED?

1 package is intended for an area of 1-2m2 if the plant leaves touch each other; if the leaves do not touch, one package per plant. If there is a large infestation, more packages are needed for the mites to handle the pests. After a month, Predator mites should be used again if pests are detected on the plants.

The package contains adult mites, larvae, and eggs, so the package works for 6 weeks. During that time, new Predator mites gradually come out of the package.

HOW TO USE?

The packs should be hung on plants and allowed for the Predator mites to work. Do not place the packs in direct sunlight. Do not tear or open the packs! The packs already have holes and since the Predator mites are 1 millimeter in size, that is enough for them to come out of the pack.

As long as the plants have Predator mites, they cannot be sprayed with chemicals, rinsed with water, or have their leaves cleaned.

Predator mites cannot be stored for a long time, so you must apply them to the plants as soon as you receive the packages. The maximum storage time is 1-2 days after receipt.

You can read more about the Predator mites and their use on the Koppert website - https://www.koppert.com
